We can’t afford to wait for the government to do the work of Democracy for us. It’s our responsibility as citizens, as it was for the Founders, to participate as informed voters united in our commitment to a functioning, civil Democracy. Among the essential elements of such a system are:
Compromise
Civility
Peaceful action
Respect for the voting process, government institutions and our political opponents
Country over Party
We must FIND COMMON GROUND TO SERVE THE COMMON GOOD!
Are we willing to teach, to learn, and to listen? Let’s build a democratic structure for
today that combines our best ideas and celebrates our common heritage and values, so
that we are all proud to say, “We’re ALL Americans!” And mean it.
BriteHeart’s hope is to engage an audience that represents all ages, genders, races, socio-economic and education levels with an outcome that activates us for growth and investment in our Democracy. Can we commit to a series of rights and responsibilities so that our Democracy can survive and, ultimately, thrive?
We believe it's possible. We hope you do too. This is a Citizens Revival among folks willing to act to heal our country. We’re excited to propel this movement in motion and set out on a fascinating journey together for our country and for its succeeding generations.
WHY IS A CITIZENS REVIVAL IMPORTANT?
BriteHeart wants to make the promise of Democracy attainable for every citizen.
America is in trouble. In 2022, the national voter turnout rate was the second highest for a midterm in 40 years, but still, only 52% of us voted. Indeed, in the critical 18-29 year-old age group, turnout actually declined. Why? Too many of us rely on the Internet and too many unreliable media sources. We elect people who don't represent our needs and respond to lobbyists before constituents. As citizens, we’ve forgotten that Democracy depends on an active citizenry to prosper. We’re not stepping up to our responsibility as citizens because we don't know how to make a difference or we don't trust the system or each other.
Today, the average citizen can’t name the branches of government, what they do and how they work together (or not). We talk at each other or just with those with whom we agree in person and on social media. We retreat into the familiar as a refuge, because there is so much that we don't understand, especially given the magnitude of misinformation to which we are constantly exposed.
We don’t want to hear, "This is how it’s always worked" or "It can't be changed." We must grow as citizens. Yet, to do this, we need to discuss what was fundamental to the creation of our Democracy. And when we hear those stories, we see that our country was fashioned and honed by Citizen Power, a force we’ve too often neglected.
WHO IS PART OF THIS CITIZENS REVIVAL?
We hope that will be YOU! This movement is for educators, white and blue collar workers, students, red, blue, purple, green and everything in between. We are busy enlisting a group of motivators to inspire you. We hope this will give you the spark of inspiration you need to join with us, as we move forward, together.
